(E) Sea grapes (Caulerpa racemosa) belong to the caulerpaceae family species of
the class Chlorophyceae can be used as antioxidants because they contain phenol
compounds, alkaloids, saponins, steroids, and flavonoids. The purpose of this
study was to formulate the ethosomal gel of sea grape extract and then determine
its antioxidant activity with the DPPH method and determine the best formula of
sea grape extract ethosome. Sea grapes were extracted by ultrasonication for 40
min then thickened and tested for antioxidant activity with the DPPH Method,
after which ethosomal nanovesicles were made, characterization tested and the
best formula was determined to be formulated into ethosomal gel preparations
of sea grape extract tested for physical and chemical stability. The results of the
study found the antioxidant activity of sea grape extract of 70.20 ± 0.13 bph.
The results of ethosome characterization show F3 is the best formula with a
polydispersity index of 0.392, particle size of 151.8 nm, zeta potential of -30.3
mV, and absorption efficiency of 97.83% ± 0.01. The test results of physical and
chemical quality parameters show good results and meet the requirements of gel
preparations. Physical stability test results and cycling test Ethoxal gel
preparations are physically stable, there is no phase separation and no
organoleptic changes. So it can be concluded that the ethosomal gel preparation
of sea grape extract ±(Caulerpa racemosa) has antioxidant activity that falls into
the range of strong and physically stable.
