(E) Cantigi (Vaccinium varingiaefolium Miq.) is suspected to have antioxidant and
sunscreen activity that can counteract free radicals caused by exposure to UV
rays on the skin. This study aims to make Cantigi leaf extract sunscreen lotion
and gelatin nanoparticles of Cantigi leaf extract sunscreen lotion that meet the
physical and chemical quality requirements and determine the SPF value.
Cantigi leaves were extracted by maceration with 70% ethanol solvent and
concentrated to obtain a thick extract and examined by specific and non-specific
parameters, tested for antioxidant activity by DPPH method and sunscreen
activity by UV-Vis spectrophotometry method. After that, it was made in the
form of nanoparticles using the desolvation method. Cantigi leaf extract and
Cantigi leaf extract gelatin nanoparticles were formulated in lotion preparations
with a concentration of 0,1297 g/100mL each and stability test was carried out
for 3 weeks at 40°C. The results of the evaluation of the preparation have a soft
texture, vanilla aroma, brown color in formula I which contains the active
substance of Cantigi leaf extract and white color in formula II which contains
active substances gelatin nanoparticles of Cantigi leaf extract, homogeneous, and
m / a lotion type. While the results on the test of viscosity, dispersion, and pH
meet the requirements of sunscreen preparations according to the literature. The
results of the sunscreen activity test showed that the SPF value in formula I was
24.93 ultra protection category and in formula II was 16.08 ultra protection
category. The results of the two-way ANOVA analysis obtained a P-value (0.206
> 0.05), which means that there is no significant difference between the formula
and storage time in determining the SPF value of the preparation. Both formulas
have ultra protection category sunscreen activity and have good quality
parameters due to the evaluation test results that meet the requirements.
